Chamarel Falls

Wodospad Chamarel

#chamarelfalls
The road to the Chamarel region is narrow and winding, full of surprises. After driving about 15 km, and completing 700m of elevation, we reach our destination.

Here we are greeted by the entrance gate where we buy tickets. It is worth deciding what to visit right away, because the ticket price depends on it.
We have a waterfall, 7 colors lands, a black tree reserve and a nature trail at our disposal.

We chose a waterfall and an earth reserve of 7 colors.
The Chamarel Waterfall is undoubtedly the highest waterfall in Mauritius, the water here falls from a height of about 100 m, and flows into an oval basin. It is located in the heart of the Chamarel region, surrounded by the lush vegetation for which the region is famous. It is fed by waters from three separate streams flowing into the Saint Denis River. The water continues down a 6 km canyon with tropical forests to the Baie du Cap.

From the vantage point next to a small parking lot, we enter a narrow, steep path, tearing through thick tropical vegetation and tree roots.

After a few minutes we come to a small basalt cliff with the best view of the waterfall.

The view is breathtaking. It is the work of nature that shaped this place for 8 to 10 million years.

There is a network of marked trails in the park, thanks to which we can walk to the top of the waterfall, and a 6 km stretch to its mouth.

We do not recommend trips in the rainy season, due to frequent descents which turn the paths into rapid streams. In January there is also the peak of mosquito brooding, which effectively demotivates :-(.

The waterfall itself is an indispensable element of a trip to Mauritius.

It's worth reserving more than a few minutes to snap a selfie.
