Sightseeing plan

We take the U1 or U3 metro lines and get off at the Stephansplatz station. We come to the surface near the gate to the cathedral.

St. Stephen's Cathedral (Ger. Stephansdom, Domkirche St. Stephan) - pride and one of the symbols of Vienna, known for numerous exhibitions of paintings and art. It rises in the middle of Stephansplatz, in the heart of the oldest part of the city.
The cathedral is the most important and one of the oldest temples in the Austrian capital. Initially, the parish church in 1365 became the seat of the chapter, from 1469/1479 the bishopric of Vienna, which in 1723 was raised to the rank of archbishopric. It was built in the years 1230 / 1240-1263 in the late Romanesque style, and then expanded from the 14th to the beginning of the 16th century. Then the cathedral received its present gothic form.
This cathedral is one of the largest temples in Europe, its total length is 107 meters and its width is 34 meters. Four towers rise above the cathedral's rooftops: the tallest of them, commonly known as Steffl, is 136.4 meters high, and the northern (never completed) only 68 meters. The west façade of the cathedral is flanked by two octagonal towers, 65 meters high. Of the twenty-two bells hung on the towers, the most famous is Pummerin, hung in the north tower, known since 1711, the present one comes from the mid-twentieth century. The last of them is decorated with figures of one of the main founders of the cathedral, Rudolf IV, and his wife.

In our opinion, the most interesting experience is taking part in a concert of a historic organ.

From the cathedral we head west, after walking the 250 meters wide promenade, turn left into Kohlmarkt street - here you will find the most exclusive boutiques in the city.

Michaelerplatz is at the end of the street
This is one of the main squares of Vienna. Historic buildings from Roman times are presented here. The square was designed in 1725, but was built 200 years later.
Here the Michaelerkirche church was built for the Hofburg courtiers, after which the square was named Michaelerplatz.
There are some interesting buildings in the square. One of them is the Michaelertrakt Hofburg, the entrance gate to the castle covered with a dome.
From the side of the square, we enter the Habsburg Palace through the historic gate.

In the castle complex, we can visit the Sisi Museum, Imperial Apartments and a collection of silver
We enter the square on the other side of the palace centrally behind the Swiss gate and head towards the Volksgarten.

The Volksgarten (or "People's Garden") is one of the most beautiful outdoor public places in Vienna. Located in the Innere Stadt, it was built in a part of the city that was destroyed during Napoleon's reign. The facility was completed and opened to the public for the first time in 1820.
The Volksgarten owes its fame in large part to the gardens located inside, especially the rose section. There is also a very famous temple called Theseus, which is a replica of the famous Greek original of the same name. Peter von Nobile built the monument in 1823 as a tribute to Empress Elizabeth of Austria.
We continue our walk towards Votiv kirche, stopping at the Rathaus and the Burg Theater. In the square under the town hall, there are often events from the openings at the RedBull festival at the end of the summer there is always an open-air cinema festival.
Unfortunately the Votívkirche is currently under renovation both inside and out, so we changed direction and hit along the ring towards the Mozart statue.

On the way, we pass the park next to the Palm House and circle the opera house, entering the oldest hotel in Vienna
Sacher Hotel

The Sacher Torte was created in 1832 and is served unchanged to this day. Still handcrafted according to the original recipe of 16-year-old Franz Sacher, who became famous by accident. In 1832, Prince Matternich asked for a dessert that would "not disappoint" him. Unfortunately, the chef has just fallen ill, which is why the dessert was prepared by 16-year-old Franz, you already know the rest of the story. The cake is known all over the world and next to Wiener schnitzel it is a must-see on the list of culinary experiences.
From here we can go further to the museum district or return along the promenade towards the cathedral.
We turn towards the cathedral to continue towards the Prater ...
