Thailand Elephant Phuket
At Elephants At 9 Dee Phuket we offer elephants a place to live free from danger and harm. We keep them together as a family and we don't torture or train them, which means we don't let any tourists ride them, teach them tricks or make them perform in any way.
They write about themselves this way, but is it true?

Are elephants in Thailand beaten and used for profit?
Historically, elephants in Thailand have been used as laborers, carrying heavy loads out of the jungle where vehicles could not get through. However, they have recently been used to attract tourists, be it by performing tricks at an entertainment venue, strolling the hot sands of the beach for photos, or carrying tourists on their backs for trekking trips. For this reason, elephants are often abused, beaten or injured.
Is it worth buying a ticket to meet elephants?
Elephant sanctuaries are created to help as many elephants as possible. Animals taken out of captivity, beaten and old animals working in circuses are brought there. Elephants are provided with the same conditions as in the wild. They can live and develop, they cannot simply be released into the wild because after a period in captivity they would not be able to survive.
1 step - food and medicine preparation
Before we meet elephants, we need to find out what they eat and how to prepare food for them. We will also prepare care products for some of them and a special small spa.

Elephants are herbivores and eat ripe bananas, leaves, bamboo, tree bark, and other fruits
Eating an elephant takes 16-18 hours during the day, and the rest of the time they sleep.

Some of them require special food and herbs

We prepare a special mixture of herbs to rub into elephant skin
2nd stage - rubbing the prepared herbs into the skin of the elephant
The first meeting with elephants is very impressive, especially for children. We do not know who had a better time with Eliza feeding the elephant or the elephant who accosted her with his trunk. For elephants, hand-feeding and massaging with special herbs that bring them relief are great fun.

3rd stage - feeding
We walk along the path, the elephants eat all our supplies on the way: 80 kg of bananas and 50 kg of bamboo. This is still only part of their daily needs. A few hundred meters away we meet a little elephant. Feeding elephants is a lot of fun.

Elephants are very friendly, they especially sense positive energy in children and are happy to play with them
By visiting an elephant sanctuary, we learn more about the lives of these giants and provide these elephants with the life they deserve: healthy food, veterinary care, plenty of places to wander, and even a mud spa to play and cool off.
4 step - mud bath

A mud bath for an elephant is not only fun, but also a way to build a natural skin protection to keep it clean. Elephants really like to be clean because their skin is sensitive.

5th step - shower
We're going to shower with the elephants. We need it more than elephants :-) It is also time for a commemorative photo and a goodbye to wonderful friends.

It is estimated that at the turn of the 20th century, the number of Asian elephants in Thailand and around the world was around 100,000. However, the global population has now dropped to around 30,000;
of these, only 2,500 - 4,000 live in Thailand and the majority live in captivity.

Is elephant care very important?
In our opinion, getting to know elephants closely, what unique animals they are. Realize that they deserve to be treated with love, care and respect.
Is the elephant in such a sanctuary well treated?
You must know and be aware that the elephant is having a better or worse day. May be in a bad mood. To keep us safe, someone has to control it.
A falling elephant will not only accidentally harm people, but can also destroy everything in its path.
The elephant is ruled by his Mahout, he is in charge of the elephant, he is his friend and looks after him all the time.
That is why we sometimes see Mahout holding an elephant by the ear.
